At this place you can enjoy a lovely peaceful vacation with family and friends. Although it is a desert town it still has many attractions and activities that are liked very much by the tourists who visit this place. Some of the attractive places near or in this place are Mount Whitney, Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, Mammoth Mountain, Death Valley National Park, and Yosemite National Park.
Some special features of Lone Pine are stated below:
Mount Whitney
This small town of Lone Pine is situated at the base of Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the adjoining United States. This mountain is 14,496 feet above sea level and getting to the top of it not a very easy task. From the top of Mount Whitney you can see the Death Valley known as the bottom of the world. The journey from top to bottom is really stunning as during the climb you can experience wooded Whitney Portal, alpine meadows, crystal-clear ponds and hidden wildlife.
The trail of this Mountain is highly well maintained, while trekking you do not need any cables or ropes.
Alabama Hills
Alabama Hills are situated on the highway 395 on the portal road. These hills are very strangely carved, on seeing it you will feel as if alien rock formalities are rising for the valley floor. Here you will find great walking, hiking and dirt roads to drive down peacefully. Many Hollywood movies are also shot here.
Dirty Sock Springs
At the southern end of Owens dry lake, north east of Olancha dunes is Dirty Sock Springs. The water of this spring is 90 degrees Fahrenheit all the year around and it gives out a strong sulpher odor.
Owens Dry Lake
Shifting sands at the southern end of Owens dry lake make up the Olancha Dunes OHV area. The Owens Lake has now completely dried up.
These are some of the places you can enjoy while you are visiting Lone Pine in California.
